There is a hearty debate across the country about the importance of “green technology” and whether electric vehicles could potentially help cut down on environmental impact. But, even if you don’t buy into the idea of global warming green technology, there is another reason you might consider going “green” with your vehicles, including your buses. They can save you tons of money.
All-electric buses are far from standard on the road. Most buses still use diesel or even propane. In fact, all-electric school buses are so rare that some reporters claimed the first first one was put into service earlier this week, even though all-electric buses have existed in some form since at least 1994.
Despite the discrepancy, the new type of green bus may be the first to be feasible on a larger scale. Converting school buses to be environmentally friendly is not an easy task, but bus owners may be willing to take the leap considering the bus introduced this week could potentially save the Kings Canyon Unified School District in California over 10,000 a year in running costs.
The bus can carry up to 25 students and has a range of 80 to 100 miles, which makes the bus considerably less capable than many more standard options, but it is capable of fitting the majority of the needs of the school district. The district has even ordered four of the buses total, with the help of the California Air Resources Board.
Only you can know if a green bus option is important to your needs, but it helps to keep the wide variety of options open when considering a bus for yourself. If you care deeply about the environment you might consider the future of green buses, but if you’re looking to save on gas miles or performance, you may be more interested in the other alternative fuels for buses that are already more widely available.
