It seems odd that the statistically safest vehicle on the road would be the one without seat belts, but yet a huge number of school buses are operating today without any belts installed for students. Those who do ride buses with belts are typically only offered lap belts, despite lap-shoulder belts being shown to increase safety while simultaneously cutting down on bad behavior.
According to the Chicago Tribune, much of why so many buses are still operating without belts can be traced to a number of outdated or outright false myths and misconceptions about belts on buses.
In an effort to clear the air and set the facts straight, SafeGuard put together an infographic listing and correcting all the most commonly believed myths surrounding school bus belts. Hopefully, we can support the more widespread use of belts through raising awareness and education.
